Sony has announced that it will be issuing a price drop for the Sony Playstation 3. With a price drop why not, make a slim version! It happened with the PS2, and PS1 (See a pattern going on there?).
The new rumored price is to be $300 for the 120 GB model. Shrinking down to 7lbs from the 11lb other models, it will not play PS2 games, and you will not be able to load Linux.
If you want to leave a bigger carbon footprint, you can always opt for the 80 GB regular PS3 that is the same price as the Slim 120 PS3. Granted you still will not be able to play PS2 games, unless you are lucky to find an older model that has the ability.
Now there is also rumoring that Microsoft is going to do away with the Xbox 360 Pro model, and just make the Elite model, standard. Which has a 120 GB hard-drive, and HDMI. There is good competition in the video game console arena, that the products will be cheap enough for the ones who have not picked up a PS3 or 360 yet, with plenty of blockbuster video games like Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, Killzone, and Grand Theft Auto. This Holiday season will be perfect to adopt one of these consoles!
